Carcassonne holidays with a car.
If you have hired a car then these are some of the local trips which you
might like to make
Lac de Cavayere also known as
Carcassonne plage.
You have to drive across town but after the 1st few times you will have
got used to the one way system and it becomes easy. It takes about 25 minutes to get to the Lake and you have
swimming and lovely walks all within an easy distance from the house.
Montagne Noire.
A great day out. Lovely winding road climbing up into the hills. You are
guaranteed that it will be a couple of degrees cooler up here. As well as the views you also have the beautiful
lake at Pradelle which is popular for outdoor swimming. The water is clear, clean and there is an alpine feel to
the area with the chalets.
Narbonne Plage.
About 1 hour down the autoroute. The beach is actually to the south of
Narbonne so there is an easy ride once you leave the autoroute. There is a wide promenade with good free parking.
The sand is very fine which is great. But remember when the wind is blowing the sand can sting!
Into the Pyrenees.
The road south to Limoux takes you into the foothills of the Pyrenees.
Plenty to explore and some great walking
West to Mirepoix, Chalabre and
Lac de Montbel.
One of our favourite days out.Mirepoix with its pottery market and
ancient wooden buildings is close to Carcassonne. A little further is Chalabre and Lac de Montbel.
A great day out and plenty of variety.
