Les Orgues, Languedoc, South of France

This picture is so typical of the scrubland covering the Fenouilledes and the photograph was taken on the approach to Les Orgues.Technically the area is just within the department of the Riberal. This is the land around the Tet river as it reaches the plains on the last stage of its journey to the sea.It is a land of market gardens. You can see parsley and lettuce laid out in straight lines alongside peach trees.

On the left bank the villages are known for their vinyards growing on the granite.

The right bank tends to be an area to grow fruit and vegetables.
