Festivals in the Languedoc and Ariege

The Ariege and Languedoc host plenty of festivals, markets and other entertainments. The holiday home in Carcassonne is close to all these activities. Come and enjoy them!

 

Middle of January through to March. A carnival at Limoux. Costumed dancing each week end.

May. A month long celebration of religious ( mainly medieval ) art at St.Lizier.

July and August. Carcassonne has the Festival de la Cite. Dancing, music and theatre with nightly performances in the Castle. Bastille day is very big in Carcassonne and the streets will be packed. Fortunately the holiday home is only a short walk from the centre.The 1st 2 weeks in August introduces the Spectacle Medieval. Medieval costumes and pageantry.

Also mid July and Mid August one weekend celebrations in Foix for Gaston Phebus...a local hero.

Early July. Film festival in Tarascon.

Mid July. St. Girons has an international festival of traditional song and dance. African, South American and of course local.

Second week end in July, Seix has a celebration of the Transhumance. The traditional passing of the sheep herds.Local market and products.

Late July. A Folk festival in Limoux. Storytelling,theatre and dance.Also a folk festival in Quillan and a street theatre in Ax-les-Thermes.

Last weekend in July.Central and South American music and dance in Tarascon.

3rd weekend July and 2nd in August. Mirepoix has a medieval pageantry, a market and a fair.In early August there is also a festival of puppetry.

August, 1st 2 weeks in St Lizier. Classical music festival.Markets, music and a Gallo-Roman festival as well.

September.1st 2 weeks. Foix. Markets and medieval celebrations.

Mid September. Mirepoix. Market and costumes.

December 17th. Carcassonne. Lively christmas market.
