You will need a "carte de peche vacances". With this you can fish for 2 weeks between 1st June and 15th
September.
Most fishing shops will supply this pass.
For those under 16 years old a youth pass will last the whole season.
The lakes in the Languedoc such as Lac de Cavayere offer quiet fishing.In the Ariege try Lac Montbel.
For more adventure the fast flowing rivers of the Ariege offer good sport.
Travelling further west towards the Atlantic Ocean the landscape becomes more undulating.The climate becomes
milder and eventually you come to the Gave d'Oloron and Gave de Mauleon which are two of France's main salmon and
trout rivers. The Gave d'Oloron has hosted the world Salmon fishing championships.
The town of Oloron-Sainte-Marie is built alongside the river. The town has a population of approximately 23,000
at a height of 224 metres.
