Trip to Mazamet, Languedoc,Feb 2005
This February ( 2005) we had two days for a brief visit to Mazamet. It was very strange to see the countryside
and the Montagne Noire without their green leaves. The weather was warm, 16 degress and upwards and the sky was
clear.Apparently the snow had melted very quickly the previous week end.
It was very interesting to hear a little about the history of Mazamet.Apparently , until recently, it was a
centre for wool trading. This industry goes back 200 years to when Napoleon granted an order to cloth his army to
merchants in Mazamet.
In the 1960's Mazamet had one of the wealthiest populations in France.
Our hotel was pleasant if somewhat quiet being out of season. The interior of the old farm house was spacious and
cool. However the breakfast room was a real gem.It had very pale egg shell blue paper on the walls matched in the
curtains draped over a window through which the morning light streamed.
