The Solar oven at OdeilloJust outside Font Romeau is the worlds sole solar oven. It is 40 m high and has been in operation since 1969.It is truly unique and attracts over 60,000 visitors a year.There are 2850 sq metres of mirrors and their combined beams can be concentrated into 1 sq cm.This can create temperatures up to 3,000 degrees centigrade. The oven was created by Professor Felix Trombe. There was an identical oven built in Uzbekistan. Since the fall of the USSR this site has been abandoned. Access road is the RN116 from Perpignan for Font-Romeu. Opening hours Summer, spring and autumn 9.30 to 12.30 and 14.00 to 18.00. In Winter it closes at 17.00 Tel number 04 68 04 14 89
